Gallery: Track The Timeline Of A Killer: From The Golden State Killer's First Victim To His Arrest
For years, a nameless, faceless, serial rapist and murderer terrorized California neighborhoods. He was called many things: The East Area Rapist, the Original Night Stalker, and most famously, the Golden State Killer. Today, however, we can finally call him by his real name.
On April 24, 2018, over four decades after the beginning of his crime spree, Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, was arrested. He's been linked to 12 murders and at least 51 rapes the length of California from 1974 to the mid '80s. It's been a long road, but hopefully, his victims will finally get closure and detectives can rest easy at last, after forty-some years in fear.
Below, track the timeline of DeAngelo, better known as the Golden State Killer, from his first victim to his capture.
