Known as Little Free Pantry, this food cupboard movement was inspired by local families in need.

It aims to provide a laid back solution to fighting hunger by allowing

anyone to restock the cupboards.

Unlike similar efforts at larger organizations, these boxes are individually run and anyone can put items inside or take them out as needed.

So far, three boxes have been created. Two are in Fayetteville, AR and one is in Ardmore, OK. There are plans to create more over time.

According to the project timeline on the

site, the first box was built and installed in May 2016, with other boxes popping up a few months later.

The site offers guidance on how to build a box of your own and install it in your community.

The goal is to cut out the red tape involved

with most charities by creating a very loosely connected, grassroots movement to feed needy families. 

The goal is for each box to be run by locals in the community who

have a passion for helping others in need.
