While Black folks usually die first in horror films, Jordan Peele's "Get Out" provided a much-needed alternative to that mess. 

And folks were here for this twisted tale of racism,

interracial dating, body-switching and horror. Made for $4.5 million dollars, the film raked in a whopping $254 million worldwide, showing that there is an audience for African-American-led horror films and that

we need more of them. 

Peele also gave us the best tagline of the year: The Sunken Place. That alone is enough to make this list!

After all that fawning over Trump and telling folks to "bow down," it looks like avid Trump supporter Omarosa Manigault finally got her pink slip from the Oval Office. And while she

is telling the media that she left on her own terms, media sources say that she was fired and dragged out of the White House for acting a plum fool!

Even worse? She said that #45 isn't racist, he's "racial." Girl, bye. 

Either way, this story was the icing on 2017's cake!

Remember: Emmett Till was lynched back in 1955 ONLY because a white woman swore that the 14-year-old was being sexually aggressive with her. Now, some sixty years later, Carolyn Bryant Donham

finally admitted that she lied. 

NONE OF THAT NEVER HAPPENED. She claims her abusive husband made her make the story up. 

Even if that part is true, does it matter? A

young Black man lost his life for nothing. 

At least now the record has been set straight. That's gotta be worth something, right?

Man...who knew the Oscars could be so exciting?

But this year, Barry Jenkins' coming to age masterpiece "Moonlight" won Best Picture, an accomplishment that only one other Black film made

by a Black director has done before (12 Years A Slave). 

However, the coveted award was accidentally given to the bland "La-La Land," but when the folks realized that was a

mistake, they announced that the real winner was "Moonlight."

What a moment y'all! One of the best of the year!

After nine years behind bars, the “Juice” was finally loose!

On October 1, O.J Simpson was finally released from a Nevada prison after serving nearly a decade in prison for kidnapping, armed

robbery and stealing sports memorabilia during a botched heist in a Las Vegas hotel room.

Luckily for him, Simpson got out on parole after being sentenced for a whopping 33

years!  

Let's hope he can stay out of trouble and live the rest of his life on the straight and narrow! 

Colin Kaepernick may no longer be playing in the NFL, but that sure doesn't mean he didn't win 2017. 

The former NFL quarterback not only started the powerful #TakeAKnee Movement

that has influenced millions around the world, but won some major awards including GQ's Citizen of the Year and Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. 

Most importantly, the 30-year-old doesn't

just talk about it, he IS about it, donating his own money to racial justice organizations around the country. 

We are confident that football or not, Kaepernick will be just

fine. 

The Chicago teen's death was one of the most talked about of the year. Remember: Kenneka Jenkins' body was found in a hotel freezer after she had been partying with

friends. 

This was a also a story about conspiracy theories, mistrust of the police and local activists, and a mother who just wanted to find the truth about why her

19-year-old daughter died so tragically. 

We're still not sure what happened to the teen, but hopefully 2018 will bring us all the answers.

The second the first full trailer for "Black Panther" dropped, every last person with a drop of melanin lost their collective minds! And for good reason. The movie looks DOPE

AF!

Director Ryan Coogler has given Black folks a lot to look forward to and hell, we deserve to have a Black superhero in a movie that depicts an African

nation as one of the most powerful in the entire world. 

Even better? It drops Black History Month 2018.
