Gallery: Two Artists Prove How YOUR ART Can Transform the World
Art is unique. Art is creative. Art is inspiring! All of this came to mind when we checked out an article about an artist by the name of Angela Fraleigh who is making it her mission to transition 17th and 18th century nude paintings of women into portraits of heroes instead.
Per Huffington Post:
"Most often, these painted women are culled from the depths of Greek mythology, from tales including 'Diana After the Hunt,' 'The Rape of Europa,' and 'The Allegory of Fertility,' where they appeared not as heroes or even protagonists but objects of desire or targets of violence. The dearth of stories revolving around women, both in ancient tales and the annals of art history, was both troubling and intriguing to Fraleigh."
Fraleigh goes on to explain:
“'Since my earliest adult paintings, I’ve been interested in how meaning is made, how we construct the stories we come to believe over time, and how this affects power dynamics in terms of race, gender and class,' the artist told The Huffington Post."
Since 2013, Fraleigh has been discovering the balance between gender and myth---what it means to be a victim verses a heroine through her work.
This is one way to transform the world with art.
Another example is an artist whose IG tag is rit.kit.tattoo. She designs tattoos by using real plants and flowers as her outlines. How remarkable is that?
Both of these are reminders having art is about having a voice, doing your own thing and making no apologies for it. If you know this is the time to get your work out there---and we totally agree!---here are suggestions on how you can start shaking the world with your gift!
