Hannah Pewee is a young woman who currently lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In June 2017, she posted an update on Facebook that quickly went viral and had people's blood boiling across the country.

In the Facebook post, Pewee wrote:

"As many of you know, it is NINETY degrees outside today in West Michigan. Aka, really hot. So, of course, I decided

to dress for the weather: shorts and a tank top. But apparently, how I was dressed (see photo below) was too slutty for the public, as I was kicked out

of the Woodland Mall today."

Believe it or not, this is the outfit that got Pewee kicked out of the mall.

She continued:

"Yup. Apparently some anonymous person reported me to MALL SECURITY for inappropriate dress and I was kicked out.

Never mind that within a one foot radius there were

plenty of girls dressed just like me, since it's NINETY degrees outside. I am so angry right now I'm shaking. I felt so embarrassed I almost cried. All because a

stranger didn't like how I dressed."

Pewee concluded the June 2017 post by writing:

"The Woodland Mall should be ashamed of themselves, as well as that anonymous complainer. It's my body, and it's hot outside! I'm

not going to show up in jeans and a sweater, sorry. Don't like it? Look away! I was out having a fun time with my sister and next thing I

know, I'm out on the street."

Pewee's story resonated with people everywhere and quickly gained traction online.

To date, it has been shared almost 12,000 times.

Facebook users were quick to rally around the young woman.

"Wow that's crazy," wrote one woman. "You are beautiful and there is nothing wrong with how you are dressed!"

Some jumped in to question the validity of the mall's move, especially if there was no sign posted about dress code.

Others, like the comment above, called out the mall for their hypocrisy:

"I was outraged when I saw your original post that they would deem the outfit you were wearing

as inappropriate, when they most likely sell clothing much worse than that!"

For reference, here's a closer shot of the outfit Pewee was wearing: cutoff shorts, a white "Finding Nemo" tank top, and flats.

The story was picked up by outlets such

as Allure, SELF, and even The Daily Beast. Comments on each of those Facebook pages echoed a similar sense of disbelief and fury at the

way Pewee was treated.

Pewee posted three updates to Facebook shortly after the first incident. In the first, she thanked everyone who had reached out to her with support.

A day later, Pewee posted her second update, letting people know that she had spoken to the mall's management team on the phone and had received a verbal apology.

In a third update posted on June 15, Pewee clarified that she had been wearing a strapless bra under the tank top.

While the Internet clearly sides with Pewee in feeling that she was treated totally unfairly, she is, unfortunately, far from the only woman to be met with criticism and backlash

over clothing choices.

Pewee put it best, in the closing sentence of her viral post: "Slut-shaming how girls are dressed is deplorable and outdated, and it needs to stop."
